My First Giveaway!!!!

My fabulous friend, Farm Chick over at It’s a Small Town Life, sent me this great cookbook a couple of months ago…’cause she’s just that kind of girlfriend.

Anyhoo, I have enjoyed it so much…especially the front cover. It just looks so fabulous in my kitchen and it has some great southern recipes.

To enter the contest, leave a comment about your favorite southern dessert ( or any dessert) from your childhood. Was it homemade ice cream? Your grandmother’s Jam Cake? Do you have your grandmother’s secret recipe and refuse to share it with the rest of the family?

My favorite? That’s really hard ’cause I have SO many. I guess one that really sticks out in my mind is my mom’s Red Velvet Cake….oh, and then there’s my Aunt Joann’s chocolate fudge…and iron skillet chocolate pie.

Don’t worry…you can leave more than one.

    Oooooooohhhhhhh!!!!!!! Dessert!

My childhood favorites were bread pudding and rice pudding...then of course....the fabulous egg custard that they served at the Luby's Cafeterias throughout Texas. *sigh*

I miss that egg custard! :)
  • Being a teacher I should be better at reading ALL of the instructions before starting at the task at hand. I completely had the cooler of beer ready until I read the last part. Needless to say, the plumber and I will have a good time cleaning up the mess. :)

And my apologies for the lack of dessert. However, currently my kitchen leak does remind me that I do love a good chocolate fountain.

The new site looks fantastic by the way! And thanks for the plumber.

    Scott,
A busted water pipe in your apartment is not a dessert...that's cheating.
If your gonna be here on my blog...you might as well have a sense of humor...even when your apartments flooding. We've all got our problems.
Just joking. Todd's coming home from Memphis and his cell is dead.
I guess I should quit playing on the internet and fix your pipes....I'll be up with the backhoe in a few...I'll expect a cooler of beer.
    Never mind...I'll call a plumber.
Still...you could have left a dessert.
  • Have Todd call me as soon as you get this. There is a lot of water coming in my house from where they were working on the pipe last week, and I have lost his number.

  • Mine would have to be Chess Pie and maybe Peach Cobbler too. Love the new webpage!

My favorite dessert is the best for a southern gal bc it is followed always by a TICK INSPECTION! Hand-churned by us kids vanilla ice cream with the fresh blackberries we picked earlier in the day to sprinkle on top! Love your blog - site is cool!
  • My favorite dessert would have to be Peach Cobbler with homemade vanilla ice cream (you know, the kind you cook on the stove before freezing it). I've never heard of iron skillet chocolate pie, but would LOVE to try it.

Hey Ginger! So glad you are first on the contest. I remember seeing your Nana Puddin' on your site...looks so good.
I haven't done iron skillet chocolate pie yet...but that will be my next post!
  • I meant iron skillet chocolate pie. But you know.
  • YES!! I get to be the first comment on your new page!!

Okay - my favorite dessert would have to be bananan pudding (nana puddin') because that was my PawPaw's favorite. We would snack on the box of Nilla wafers, too.

I do love me some red velvet cake.

Wait, have you ever shown iron skillet chocolate cake on your blog? (this is a good excuse!) YUM!
